Sulphur Springs

City and administrative headquarters of Hopkins County, northeastern Texas, 116 km/72 mi northeast of Dallas; population (1990) 14,1000. Hopkins County is one of the largest US dairy producers, and the city has dairy and food processing and meatpacking plants. Its varied products include clothing, plastics, valves, weather balloons, and fertilizer.

The city acquired its name in the 1870s from the area's many mineral springs.
