| Heronlike bird Eurypya helias, the only member of the family Eurypygidae, order Gruiformes, that occurs in Central America. It is fairly large, about 42 cm/16 in, with a long neck and slender bill. Its plumage is mottled, the chief shades being brown, black, and white. It frequents the marshy banks of large rivers. |
