support environment

In computing, a collection of programs (software) used to help people design and write other programs. At its simplest, this includes a text editor (word-processing software) and a compiler for translating programs into executable form; but it can also include interactive debuggers for helping to locate faults, data dictionaries for keeping track of the data used, and rapid prototyping tools for producing quick, experimental mock-ups of programs. Support environments are sometimes referred to as Integrated Development Environments (IDEs). Common examples are Microsoft Visual Studio (for C++, C#, and Java) and Microfocus (for COBOL).
