suprachiasmatic nucleus

In anatomy, one of two small regions in the hypothalamus that play a part in controlling circadian rhythm.

The name refers to its location above the chiasma opticum, or crossing point of the visual nerves from both eyes, which in turn derives its name from the Greek letter chi, shaped like a cross.
