symphonic study

    0.05 sec.

symphonic study

A term invented by Edward Elgar for his Falstaff, probably because it is intended to be as much an outline of Falstaff's character as a description of the events surrounding him. Robert Schumann's Etudes Symphoniques (Symphonic Studies) of 1835 consist of a theme and variations for piano solo.
