syringomyelia

Intermittently progressive neurological disease characterized by the development of fluid-filled cavities within the spinal cord. Symptoms are weakness and wasting of the hands, with sensory loss, and difficulty in walking. The disease may progress to involve the lower brainstem, a condition known as syringobulbia. There is no cure.
