systolic pressure

In medicine, the measurement due to the pressure of blood against the arterial wall during systole (the contraction of the heart). It is the highest blood pressure during the cardiac cycle.

The average systolic blood pressure in young adults is 120 mmHg. It increases with age as the arteries get thicker and harder and it may rise to more than 200 mmHg in people with untreated hypertension (high blood pressure).
