terza rima

Poetical metre used in Dante's Divine Comedy, consisting of three-line stanzas in which the second line rhymes with the first and third of the following stanza. Poets who used terza rima include Petrarch, Boccaccio, and in English, Chaucer and Wyatt.

Naturally enough this was a long poem in the terza rima of the "Divina Commedia," and dealing with a story of our civil war in a fashion so remote that no editor would print it.
