thermopile

Instrument for measuring radiant heat, consisting of a number of thermocouples connected in series with alternate junctions exposed to the radiation. The current generated (measured by an ammeter) is proportional to the radiation falling on the device.

Design overview The design is based on a Perkin-Elmer A2TPMI thermopile sensor which is readily available at low cost.
[FIGURE 3 OMITTED] To measure the power delivered to the weld, a thermopile power meter (Coherent Lab-Master) was used to measure the power at various diode current settings (0-1000 mA) with the laser beam passing through the same materials and interfaces used in an actual welding setup.
