pharyngitis

In medicine, an inflammatory condition that affects the wall of the pharynx and the throat. It is usually due to a viral infection. Symptoms include irritation and discomfort of the throat, which may be relieved by throat pastilles and gargles. Infections due to bacteria can be treated by antibiotics.
