thromboembolism

In medicine, the formation of a blood clot in one part of the cardiovascular system from which it becomes detached and then lodges in another part of the cardiovascular system.

The most common form of thromboembolism involves the formation of a clot in the veins of the legs that migrates to the lungs. This condition requires urgent treatment with anticoagulants and/or surgery.
