ailanthus

Any of several trees or shrubs with compound leaves made up of pointed leaflets and clusters of small greenish flowers with an unpleasant smell. The tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima), native to East Asia, is grown worldwide as an ornamental; it can grow to 30 m/100 ft in height and the trunk can reach 1 m/3 ft in diameter. (Genus Ailanthus, family Simaroubaceae.)
