tree-frog

About 600 species of the amphibian family Hylidae, order Anura. They are widely distributed, especially in the USA. The common tree-frog Hyla arborea is about 2.5 cm/1 in long, bright leaf-green above and white underneath, and possesses some powers of colour change. The male can croak loudly by means of a distensible throat sac. The digits bear adhesive discs, with which it readily climbs.
