massageManipulation of the soft tissues of the body, the muscles, ligaments, and tendons, either to encourage the healing of specific injuries or to produce the general beneficial effects of relaxing muscular tension, stimulating blood circulation, and improving the tone and strength of the skin and muscles. The benefits of massage were known to the ancient Chinese, Egyptian, and Greek civilizations.
