Senior manager, usually with considerable general management experience across a range of businesses, who is brought into a company to deal with a specific problem. Unlike management consultants, troubleshooters have a mandate to take any actions they think appropriate. A high-profile troubleshooter in the UK was John Harvey-Jones, former chair of ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries).
