fitting

Device used to attach materials together. Permanent fittings include nails and rivets, while fittings that can be removed include screws and nuts and bolts. Hinges are fittings that allow movement at a joint. DIY furniture often includes specialist fittings called knock-down (KD) fittings, which are used to assemble products and hold them in place but can be removed in order to disassemble the product.
