touraco

Any fruit-eating African bird of the family Musophagidae, order Cuculiformes. They have a small high bill, notched and serrated mandibles, a long tail, erectile crest, and short, rounded wings. The largest are 70 cm/28 in long.

Many of them are brilliantly coloured with glossy blue, red, violet and green plumage. There are about 18 species including the violet plantain-eater Muscophaga violacea and the white-cheeked touraco Touraco leucotis, which resembles a multicoloured magpie.

You might also spot a species of bird called a Turaco, which is green with a quiff.
Baboons paced in a circle and then climbed onto a rock as the light faded and a Green Winged Turaco bird, caught in darkness away from its nest, was frozen to the spot.
