unfolding

In voice-leading analysis, an interval is unfolded if two notes are presented consecutively in the same voice in the music, but can be considered at a deeper structural level to occur simultaneously (that is, to be separate voices within a single harmony). Very often, the interval between the two notes is filled in by passing notes or an arpeggiation.
