upper bound

In mathematics, a value that is greater than or equal to all the values of a given set. The upper bound of a measurement is taken as the top extreme of the possible values. For example, for a length given as 3.4 cm correct to one decimal place, the upper bound is 3.45 correct to two decimal places. The limiting value of an infinite set is the least upper bound. See also approximation.
