upthrust

Upward force experienced by all objects that are totally or partially immersed in a fluid (liquid or gas). It acts against the weight of the object, and, according to Archimedes' principle, is always equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by that object. An object will float when the upthrust from the fluid is equal to its weight (see floating).
