vegan

Vegetarian who eats no foods of animal origin whatever, including fish, eggs, and milk.

Theoretically vegans are at risk of a deficiency of vitamin B12 which is needed by the body for blood cell and nerve formation (see vitamin); it can be absorbed from fortified soya products and yeast extracts. Vegans ensure an adequate supply of calcium (commonly obtained from dairy products) from greens, seeds, nuts, and soya products, and vitamin D from sunshine.
