mullein

Any of a group of herbaceous plants belonging to the figwort family. The great mullein (V. thapsus) has lance-shaped leaves 30 cm/12 in or more in length, covered in woolly down, and a large spike of yellow flowers. It is found in Europe and Asia and is naturalized in North America. (Genus Verbascum, family Scrophulariaceae.)
