very long-baseline interferometry

    0.03 sec.

very long-baseline interferometry

In radio astronomy, a method of obtaining high-resolution images of astronomical objects by combining simultaneous observations made by two or more radio telescopes thousands of kilometres apart.

The maximum resolution that can be achieved is proportional to the longest baseline in the array (the distance between any pair of telescopes), and inversely proportional to the radio wavelength being used.
