viscose

Yellowish, syrupy solution made by treating cellulose with sodium hydroxide and carbon disulphide or with cuprammonium liquor and sodium hydroxide. The solution is then regenerated as continuous filament (rayon) by forcing it through very small holes and solidifying it (in a process known as spinning). Forcing viscose through a slit instead of small holes produces cellophane.
