DixieSouthern states of the USA. Dixie encompasses those states that joined the Confederacy during the American Civil War. The word may derive from the Mason–Dixon Line defining the northern boundary. Another explanation refers to the paper money printed in Louisiana before the Civil War, which had one side inscribed in French: on ten-dollar bills dix.
