Whitewater

Town in Walworth and Jefferson counties, southeast Wisconsin; population (1990) 11,500. It is situated on Whitewater Creek, 29 km/18 mi northeast of Janesville. It is the centre of a region rich in dairy products, poultry, and grain and truck farms. Manufacturing and food processing figure in the local economy. It is home to the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater (1868). US settlement dates from 1837.
