Any of various edible marine bony fishes, especially the silver hake and various kingfishes, genus Menticirrhus.

Whiting

Town in Lake County, northwest Indiana; population (1990) 5,200. It adjoins Hammond and East Chicago, and is situated on Lake Michigan, in the highly industrialized Calumet area, to the southeast of Chicago. It has large oil refineries, and manufactures chemicals and soap.
