During the breeding season the male paradise whydah has elongated black tail feathers 28 cm/11 in long. The paradise whydah lives in dry bush country in central Africa.
Any of various African birds of the genus Vidua, order Passeriformes, of the weaver family. They lay their eggs in the nests of waxbills, which rear the young. Young birds resemble young waxbills, but the adults do not resemble adult waxbills. Males have long tail feathers used in courtship displays.
