telephone tapping

Listening in on a telephone conversation, without the knowledge of the participants; in the UK and the USA this is a criminal offence if done without a warrant or the consent of the person concerned.

Telephone tapping, or the use of ‘wire taps’, has become an important although controversial tool in the efforts against organized crime, drug trafficking, and foreign intelligence information.

VATAN ----- PREMIER DENY ANY INVOLVEMENT IN WIRE-TAPPING JUDICIARY Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan strongly rejected allegations that the government had ordered the country's telecommunications watchdog to wire-tap a number of senior members of the judiciary.
