wizard

In computing, an interactive tool developed by Microsoft that ‘talks’ program users through a complex operation, such as creating a template or a presentation. The wizard presents the user with a series of dialog boxes asking simple questions in ordinary language, which the user answers by choosing radio buttons, checking boxes, and entering information by keyboard.

The term wizard stems from programmers' slang, where it means an expert in a particular piece of software or hardware, capable of answering all manner of queries, fixing faults, and dealing with emergencies.
