Unfinished goods, parts, and other materials in the production process. Together with raw materials and finished goods, work in progress is classed as stock. While some production systems, such as just-in-time systems, aim to minimize work in progress, for others, such as aircraft manufacture, where production of the finished good takes a long time, work in progress constitutes a high proportion of working capital.
