loosestrife

Genus Lysimachia of plants of the primrose family (Primulaceae) including swampcandles L. terrestris of North America, with yellow and purple-streaked flowers on a spike. The name is also applied to members of the genus Lythrum of the loosestrife family, such as the European willow loosestrife L. salicaria, now a weed in the northeastern USA.
