yellowhammer

A pair of yellowhammers, or yellow buntings, Emberiza citrinella. The male has a bright yellow head and underparts; the female's plumage is less colourful.

Eurasian bird Emberiza citrinella of the bunting family Emberizidae, order Passeriformes. About 16.5 cm/6.5 in long, the male has a yellow head and underside, a chestnut rump, and a brown-streaked back. The female is duller.

The name is sometimes also used for a subspecies of the northern flicker Colaptes auratus, a North American woodpecker with a spotted belly and yellow underwings.
